SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENTS
Make sure that the E4C2 is adjusted so that it has an appropriate
margin of sensing distance and that the E4C2 is not influenced at
all by the background object.
Sensitivity adjuster
Background object
Target object
SENSITIVITY ADJUSTMENT STEPS
FOR THREE APPLICATION TYPES
If the target moves laterally in front of the sensor head, and
the background is within the sensing distance:
Procedure:
1. With target present, adjust sensitivity to the minimum for
target detection.
2. Without target, adjust sensitivity to the minimum for back-
ground detection.
3. Reduce sensitivity to the midpoint between 1 and 2.
If the target moves laterally in front of the sensor head, and
no background is within sensing distance:
Procedure:
1. Set sensitivity to the maximum.
If the target approaches the sensing head directly, and
no background is within the sensing distance:
Procedure:
1. Move target to desired sensing position.
2. Adjust the sensitivity to detect the target.

Precautions
WIRING
Do not wire power lines or high-tension lines within the same
conduit with the E4C2 or the E4C2 may be damaged or
malfunction due to induction. Be sure the lines of the E4C2 are
laid separated from power lines or high-tension lines or laid in an
exclusive, shielded conduit.
SENSOR MOUNTING
Do not tighten the nut with excessive force.
Be sure to apply the provided toothed washer and tighten the nut
to a torque of 9 N m maximum.
SENSITIVITY ADJUSTER
Do not turn the sensitivity adjuster excessively. If the sensitivity
adjuster is turned exceeding the permissible range, the stopper
may break and sensitivity adjustment will not be possible.
POWER SUPPLY
If a switching regulator is employed, ground the FG and G
terminals.
Do not impose voltage exceeding the rated supply voltage or
connect an AC power supply.
TURNING POWER ON
It takes a maximum of 100 ms for the Sensor to be ready to
operate after the E4C2 is turned ON. If the load and E4C2 are
connected to independent power supplies respectively, be sure to
turn ON the E4C2 first.
SHORT-CIRCUIT PROTECTION
The E4C2 has a built-in circuit that protects against short-circuit
damage. If the circuit is triggered, the load will not operate
regardless of the incident status. If that happens, turn OFF the
E4C2, check the condition of the load, eliminate the cause of the
short-circuiting, and then turn ON the E4C2 again.
EFFECTS OF SURROUNDING OBJECTS
If there are surrounding objects near the Sensor, make sure to
keep the Sensor away from the surrounding objects for the
following distances or more.
40 mm
8 mm
MUTUAL INTERFERENCE
If more than one Unit is closely mounted together or used in a
narrow space, mutual interference of the Sensors will result.
If more than one E4C2 is mounted face to face or in parallel,
make sure that the distances between two Units adjacent to each
other are the same as or larger than the corresponding values
shown below.
