NETWORK STORAGE DATA SHEET Adaptec TOE NAC 7711 (R) TM Industry's fastest ASIC-based complete TCP/IP Offload product for network intensive applications. The Adaptec TOE NAC 7711C & 7711F network accelerator cards are the industry's first fully offloaded TCP/IP Offload Engines (TOE) for gigabit Ethernet environments. Ideal for TCP-based network intensive applications, the Adaptec 7711 expands the network interface from a basic network connection to a network accelerator. By offloading the entire TCP/IP stack to the on-board ASIC, Adaptec 7711 cards remove TCP/IP processing from the host processor and allow the host to focus more CPU resources on demanding applications. This drives substantially lower response time and increased throughput resulting in enhanced application performance with very low CPU utilization. Maximize Network Application Performance Demands on corporate LANs are increasing dramatically. Files are becoming larger and more complex; and applications are becoming so compute-intensive that farms of server clusters and NAS data storage are required to address computational needs. The data rates driven by these kinds of applications frequently reach Gigabit Ethernet speeds. Because processing 1Gbit of TCP/IP traffic typically requires up to 1 GHz of CPU power, TCP/IP processing saturates the servers, leaving little remaining CPU power to process target applications. As a result, these overburdened CPUs slow large file transfers, clustered highperformance computing, LAN based backup, NAS solutions, and other networked applications. NACs relieve the burden of TCP/IP processing and accelerate these network-intensive applications. Extend the Lifetime of Existing Servers Because many servers are at least 18 months old, their aging processing power is frequently saturated by network applications that drive today's heavier workloads across LANs. One approach to solving this problem is to purchase additional servers, an option that significantly increases hardware and IT management costs. A much easier and more affordable alternative is to integrate Adaptec NAC products into existing servers. This allows users to reach higher level of performance with their existing infrastructure and extends the life of servers before an upgrade is required. Fastest, Most Robust Implementation in Industry The Adaptec 7711 incorporates an ASIC that completely offloads TCP/IP processing from the host. Parallel transmit and receive pipelines enable full-duplex line rates by handling the entire TCP data path, including out-of-order processing, re-transmissions, TCP segmentation, and re-assembly. Because of a unique pipeline architecture, Adaptec NAC products provide high throughput for both large and small block sizes to maximize performance across a broad range of applications. In addition, compared to partial-offload solutions, the Adaptec 7711's complete TCP/IP offload feature offers the greatest CPU offload in both congested and non congested networks. Applications Ideal for file serving applications, high performance technical computing, compute intensive databases, LAN based backups, and NAS storage Benefits Accelerates network intensive applications lowering response time and increasing network throughput Extends life of existing servers by giving back valuable CPU cycles for application processing Product Highlights Complete TCP/IP Offload Full duplex Gbit/sec Ethernet throughput Very low CPU utilization ASIC implementation NETWORK STORAGE DATA SHEET Adaptec TOE NAC 7711 ANA-7711F - fiber optic (1975600) ANA-7711C - copper (1975700) Advanced Features Auto negotiation 100/1000 Mbit/sec TCP/IP throughput 1 Gbit/sec half duplex; 2 Gbit/sec full duplex TCP features TCP checksum, segmentation, re-transmit, in-order-delivery, congestion control, congestion avoidance, slow start, fast re-transmit, window probe, window scaling, SACK, timestamp IP addresses 4 On-board SDRAM memory 64 MByte Management support Ethernet, IP, TCP MIBs, SNMP 2.0 Offloaded TCP connections 1024 maximum (concurrent) Maximum PCI burst size 256 Bytes Connectors SC (1x9) RJ-45 Diagnostic LEDs 2 3 Standards support * PCI 2.2 (3.3v) 32/64-bit, 33/66 MHz * IP v.4 * RFC 802.3z; 802.3ab (gigabit Ethernet) * RFC 802.3x (flow control) Compliance (pending) FCC Class B, CE, C-tick, VCCI, UL1950, CSA950 OS support Red Hat Linux, SuSE Linux, Turbolinux Physical, Environmental Physical size 3.3 inches x 6.875 inches Power Maximum 15 Watts (10 -13 Watts typical operating) Supply voltage +3.3 V +/- 5% Operating temperature range 0o to 55o C (no airflow) Storage temperature range -40 to 70 degrees C Relative humidity Up to 90% (non-condensing) Reliability MTBF 435,000 hours Adaptec 7711C 2.5 inches x 6.6 inches (MD2) Adaptec 7711F For an ASIC-based adapter that provides servers and storage target devices the fastest, most interoperable connection into iSCSI SANs, refer to the Adaptec iSCSI Card 7211.
