Access to the Wiring Chamber
Thewiringchamberisaccessedviaacoverplate.Themetalswitchbodyusestwo
screwstoholdthecoverplateon.AconduitadapterissuppliedtoconverttheM20x
1.5threadto½"-14NPT.AnaccessorycableglandwhichfitstheM20x1.5threadis
available(seepage7).
Connection to the Machine
Twocontactsareoffered.Thecontactbetweenterminals11and12or21and22isthe
safetycontact,whichisclosed(i.e.,itconducts)whentheactuatorisengaged.The
normallyopencontactlocatedbetweenterminals23and24isconsideredamonitoring
contact,whichshouldnotbeusedforsafetyswitching.
AsillustratedinFigure2,anormallyclosedsafetycontact(i.e.,asafetycontactthatis
closedwhentheactuatorisengaged)fromeach of two safety switches per interlock
guardmustconnecttoa2-channelsafetymoduleorsafetyinterfaceinordertoachieve
acontrolreliableinterfacetothemasterstopcontrolelementsofamachine.Examplesof
appropriatesafetymodulesinclude2-channelemergencystop(E-stop)safetymodules
andgatemonitorsafetymodules.
Twofunctionsofthesafetymoduleorsafetyinterfaceare:
1. toprovideameansofmonitoringthecontactsofbothsafetyswitchesfor
contactfailure,andtopreventthemachinefromrestartingifeitherswitchfails;
and
2. toprovidearesetroutineafterclosingtheguardandreturningthesafetyswitch
contactstotheirclosedposition.Thispreventsthecontrolledmachineryfrom
restartingbysimplyreinsertingthesafetyswitchactuators.Thisnecessary
resetfunctionisrequiredbyANSIB11andNFPA79machinesafetystandards.
Useonlyapositivelydriven,normallyclosedsafetycontactfromeachswitchfor
connectiontothesafetymodule.The normally open contact may be used for control
functions that are not safety-related.Atypicaluseistocommunicatewithaprocess
controller.Refertotheinstallationinstructionsprovidedwiththesafetymodulesformore
informationregardingtheinterfaceofthesafetymoduletothemachinestopcontrol
elements.

Installation
Two safety switches must be
used for each interlock guard to achieve control
reliability or Safety Category 4 (per ISO 13849-
1, EN 954-1) of a machine stop circuit. Use of
only one safety switch per interlock guard is not
recommended.
Inaddition,normally-closedsafetycontacts
fromeachofthetwosafetyswitchesshouldbe
connectedtothetwoseparateinputsofa2-channel
safetymoduleorsafetyinterface,asillustratedin
Figure6.Thisisrequiredtoprovidemonitoringfor
safetyswitchcontactfailure,andtoprovidethe
necessaryresetroutine,asrequiredbyIEC60204-
1andNFPA79machinesafetystandards.
