Introduction
The 73S1210F Evaluation Board is a turnkey serial smar t ca r d r eader development kit for t he efficient
eval uati on and development of stand-alone so l uti ons. The boar d pr ovides t w o card i nterfaces. The
board can be used in conjunction with any Windows® XP host syst em that has an RS-23 2 po r t. The host
application ca n access the board th r ough the Teridian Pseudo-CCID (PCCID) commands to communicate
with asynchronous smart cards, following T-0 and T-1 protocols, in com pl ian ce wit h ISO78 16-3 and EMV
4. 1 standards.

A 73S1217F/1210F Evaluation Board popul ated wit h a 73S1210F and pre-loaded with the Teridian
Pseudo-CCID firmware.
A CD co ntai nin g the Exerci ser application gener ic host dri ver and docu ments.
RS-232 S er ial ca ble, Female/Mal e, 2 meters.
A 5V DC power supply.
Default Setup
The 73S1210F Evaluation Board ships with a default configurati on suit abl e for use as a turnkey
Transparent Smar t C ar d R eader using a Pse udo-CCI D over serial conn ection t o communi cat e with a host
PC application. The board’s hardware and fir mware are pr e-configured by Teridian to work in this state
and the information in this document assumes this default co nfi gurati on. Refer to the 73S1210
Evaluation Board User Guide (UG_1217F_035) for d etai l s on alternate hardw are con fi gur ations and u ses.
Software Installation on Windows XP
Fol l ow t hese steps u sing a PC running Windo ws XP:
Extract PCCID V y.yy Release.zip(where y.yy i s the latest version of the fir mware release) .
o Create an install dir ectory. For example: “C:\TSC\”.
o Unzi pPCCID V y.yy Release.zip” to t he ju st cr eated folder. All applica ti ons and documentat ion
needed to run the board with a Win dows PC will be loaded t o this folder.
Connect the Seri al cable between the host system and the board.
P lug th e supplied adapter in to the 5V DC j ack on t he boar d.
P r ess the ON/ OF F b utton once. Th e power LE D D8 sh oul d turn on.
A t this point th e applica ti on i s now in stalled and the development board i s ready t o use. The provided
host appli cation or any ot her host appl ication can n ow be launched from W i ndows XP t o access the
smart card reader.
THIS EVALUATION SYSTEM IS ESD SENSITIVE! ESD PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE
TAKEN WHEN HANDLING THE BOARD!

Dem ons tration H ost Applicati on
I ncluded on the CD i s a demonstr ation appl ication named “TS CP -CCID.exe” which is located in th e
x:\yyy\ \PCCID Vz.zz Release\Host Application s \Windows App\App\Bin\Release” d irectory (where x
refers to the drive, yyy refers to the directory t he in stallation .zip file w as expanded to and z.zz is the
latest version of the fir mwar e r elease) . This i s a host appl i cation that allows:
S mart card activation and deactivat ion, i n ISO or EMV mode.
S mart card AP DU commands to be exchanged wit h the smart card inserted in the board.
S tarti ng a test sequence in order to test and evaluat e the board per formance again st an EMV test
environment.
Run TSCP-CCID.exe to execute the host demonstrati on applica ti on. At this point th e appl ication window
shoul d appear . F or addi tional information r egar di ng the use of the Teridian H ost appl i cation, refer to t he
Pseudo-CCID Host GUI Users Guide (UG_12xxF_037).
Inte grati on in an Emb edded System
The 73S1210F Evaluation Board can also be connected to a host micr opr ocessor i n an embedded
architecture, l i ke in Poi nt-of-Sales t er min als, so l id-stat e utility m eters and digital Set-Top Boxes. I n such
cases, a softwa r e Pseudo-CCID d river must be i ntegrated within the host processor embedded software.
The Teridian CD provided wit h this Development Board i ncludes the AN SI C source code of the Teridian
generic driver that will allow seamless in tegrati on i nto virtuall y and proce ssor and oper ati ng system . F or
