ELECTRICALMECHANICAL
Model CA-3018 is a high-power, broadband UHF antenna which provides
vertically polarized, omnidirectional coverage over the 225 – 400 MHz
frequency band. The unique design allows it to be installed on existing
Navy ship masts without degrading its electrical performance.
The unit consists of four broadband radiating elements mounted
equidistant from a central mast and equally spaced from each other.
They are fed inphase through an integral corporate feed-system to
produce omnidirectional azimuth coverage.
The feed-system, consisting of coaxial transmission lines and impedance
matching sections is enclosed and sealed within an aluminum framework.
The array is fed from a single 50 ohm input connector. It handles average
RF powers to 1 kW, with an input VSWR of 1.8:1 or less over the entire
operating band.
The standard antenna configuration is intended for use on masts ranging
from 4 to 11 inches in diameter. It is fabricated in two sections, using
weatherproof, breakaway flanges, for simple, rapid installation. Mounting
adaptors (CA-3230 Series) are available to meet customer’s specific mast
requirements.
Modification Kit, Model CA-3260, is also available for special applications
where the mast diameter exceeds 11 inches. This kit, which increases the
separation between the two antenna sections, is useful for mast diameters
ranging from 11 to 15 inches.
Prime consideration has been given to providing a rugged, weatherproof,
high-performance antenna capable of prolonged operation in severe
shipboard environments. The inherent design provides a high capacity
drain path to ground for lightning protection and to prevent static
charge buildup. A balun feed system and isolation traps limit RF current
flow on the central mast, preserving optimum pattern characteristics.
CA-3018 has been fully qualified to meet MIL-S-901C for Grade A Shock;
MIL-S-167, Type I Vibration; and the Service Conditions of MIL-E-16400F
for Class 2 equipments.
