gesis®MINI
Form, space, color and light:
Store design and exhibition construction are
becoming increasingly more professional.
An electrical installation system also has to
confront this development by making itself
almost “invisible”. Just like gesis®MINI , the
pluggable electrical installation concept in a
compact design.
5
gesis®MINI
gesis®MINI
Store design as well as exhibition construction focus on the
perfect product experience. Lighting facilities directly on the shelf are
becoming increasingly more important, resulting in a more effective
illumination, a better presentation and finally more sales. The
electrical installation system must also follow this development.
It is important that only one installation system with compact
components is used, as both the electronic ballast and the luminaires
become increasingly smaller. With the trend towards miniaturization,
another development intensifies: nothing is built for eternity any
more – the retrofit cycles for presentation systems become shorter
and shorter. The electrical installation system has to stand up to
this as well. gesis®MINI delivers on both demands and combines a
minimum in size with a maximum in flexibility. Everything according
to the principle of pluggability.
Mini following the trend
Mini is maxi:
The trend towards miniaturization in
lighting comprises the whole system.
One example is the TL-5 fluorescent lamp
with a diameter of only 16 mm. Smaller and
smaller installation spaces for the electrical
installation system are the result.
Smaller space – larger sales:
The battle for the consumer is decided more
and more at the point of sale. The economic
principle is: sales as high as possible in spaces
as small as possible. This is one of the reasons
for the trend towards miniaturization.

gesis®MINI
The use of gesis®MINI is not restricted to striking illumination
scenarios in displays, showcases or shelves. The 2, 3, 4 or 5 pole
system designs also enable versatile use – even in the form of DALI
applications.
The compact connector system can also be used, for example,
in connection with unfinished constructions, where tight space for
electrical installations is a daily occurrence. Façade components can
be pre-assembled in a special way – sunblinds, alarm wire-mesh or
magnetic switches are plugged in on site quickly and easily.
But the scope of gesis®MINI is far greater. Thanks to its small
dimensions the system is also perfectly suitable for technically
optimal, standard-compliant electrification of outlets or luminaires
which are installed, for example, in office or kitchen furniture.
Mini fits in everywhere
gesis®MINI as standard component:
Not only in luminaires but also in outlets or
cable ducts, gesis®MINI can be installed as
a standard component.
Interior fittings for vehicles:
For interior fittings in vehicles, for example the
electrical installation of mobile homes or
campers, every inch counts.
Here gesis®MINI keeps scoring as well with its
small dimensions.
7
gesis®MINI
gesis®MINI
Pre-assemble – plug in – finished:
gesis®MINI is an optimal interface between
the facade and the electrical trade. Following
the plug & play principle, pre-assembled
components only have to be combined
on site.
8
gesis®MINI
gesis®MINI adds an important facet to the
gesis® family. While previously wiring with
terminal blocks was tedious detail work, the
complete power distribution can now be
installed consistently with pluggable
components – even in barely accessible
corners of a shelf or facade. Even most
confined spaces are no longer a problem.
And the best part: installation can be
implemented with 250 V and 16 A.
gesis®MINI offers all the benefits of the
classic gesis® system. A few flicks of the
wrist and the connection is made. In total
this means enormous savings in time and
reductions in costs for the initial installation –
not to speak of the follow-up costs for error
diagnostics or laborious reworking. Another
benefit: even modifications can be
implemented quickly and easily.
Mini always fits
Everything is consistent:
One system from the power supply to the
consumer device: gesis®MINI integrates
perfectly into the extensive gesis® system.
This enables complex installation geometries.
Pluggable, of course!
9
gesis®MINI
gesis®MINI
Low installation depth:
A comparison of size shows that much less
space is required for gesis®MINI compared to
gesis®CON. This advantage pays off especially
for installation of fluorescent lamps.
Small is powerful:
No matter whether 2, 3, 4 or 5 poles. With
its small dimensions gesis®MINI is excellently
suitable for electrification of luminaires and
devices which have only a little space.

gesis®MINI i s a pluggable electrical
installation system that has been designed
especially for confined room conditions.
Perfect 2, 3, 4 or 5 pole installations can
be implemented with a small number of
components, for example in store design,
exhibition or facade construction – quickly
and flexibly. An adapter combines gesis®MINI
with gesis®CON .
This opens the door to an installation system
with more than 5000 components and almost
unlimited opportunities.
Mini in detail
Completely safe:
All connectors of gesis®MINI are mechanically
coded meaning that only the matching
male and female connectors can be plugged
together in the correct pole configuration
while the locking device latches audibly.
Connectors
The gesis®MINI components are locked by
simply latching the mechanically coded parts.
Cable assemblies
All gesis®MINI components are preassembled
and simply have to be plugged together. In
addition to time savings and cost reductions
most of all it results in higher safety, flexibility
and improved service.

With a relatively small number of
components, gesis®MINI is suitable for
establishing efficient electrotechnical
topologies. By using device connectors,
luminaires or other devices are made
pluggable. A special U-piece enables
consistent chaining of the pluggable lamps.
Everything is possible:
With only a few components
gesis®MINI can help to set
up exemplary electrical
installations. The system will
keep on growing in order to
meet new requirements.
Device connection
Via snap-in consisting of a frame and an
insulating part, the connections for a pluggable
connector can be placed, for example, inside
luminaire housings quickly and safely.
Feed-through wiring
Use of a pluggable U-piece enables the
connection of luminaires without a great effort.
The benefits are clear: if one out of several
lamps connected in series fails, dismounting
the defective lamp will suffice. For this purpose
the U-piece is detached and simply replaced
when finished.
Distribution units
The 3 pole distribution units enable
individual and space-saving utilization and
routing during assembly.
Intermediate coupling
The intermediate coupling facility is used for
direct routing, for example from luminaire to
luminaire.
Solder parts
Solder parts are soldered directly onto PC
boards making them pluggable.

Frequently asked questions
What speaks in favor of using
gesis®MINI ?
End devices, electronic ballast, lamps and the
installation space become smaller. gesis®MINI
responds to this development with compact
dimensions. Several connectors can be
integrated in one unit. An advantage that can
be seen, among others, in luminaires and
sockets.
What are the benefits of gesis®MINI ?
In short: the compact design plus safety plus
high functionality. Safety is revealed by the
fact that gesis®MINI is VDE approved and also
by the special locking mechanism of the
connectors, the high technical functionality
in the design for 16 A despite the compact
dimensions.
Is gesis®MINI to be understood as a
replacement for gesis®CON (GST 18i)?
Not at all. gesis®MINI does not replace the
much more comprehensive gesis®CON
system. Instead, gesis®MINI is intended as a
supplement for applications that exclude the
use of gesis®CON components.
What is the difference compared with
gesis®CON ?
The difference lies mainly in the small
construction size. The use of a screw
connection further helps to reduce
the dimensions.
Will there be additional
system components?
The system will grow. The next components
are already being developed.
How does the coding concept work?
Coding 1:
black and white for general main power
supply applications
Coding 2:
pastel blue for dimming applications
Coding 3:
light blue for low-voltage applications
Coding 4:
brown for grounded switching functions
What are the benefits of the 2-piece
device connection?
Everything can be simply plugged together.
The frame is pre-assembled outside the
device. The pre-assembled male or female
part is simply latched inside the luminaire.
Alternatively the lamp manufacturer can
directly integrate the frame function into the
end piece of the luminaire.
14
gesis®MINI
15
gesis®MINI
Electronic components become
increasingly smaller. Consumer devices
become smaller and the electrical
connection must therefore become
smaller, too.
For installations in exhibition systems,
on the shelf or in fades every inch
counts.
The smaller, the better is the motto
here. With its extremely compact
dimensions, gesis MINI proves to
fit perfectly while providing full
performance. Its implementation
guarantees 250 V and 16 A.
gesis MINI provides all the benefits
of the classical gesis system and
integrates itself perfectly.

gesis® PLAN 3D for the presentation.
Display of the planning.
The gesis PLAN demonstration and planning
software is a tool for conveniently designing and
calculating pluggable electrical installations with
gesis. The software supports specialist planners
as well as system integrators, architects and
clients in the electrical design of buildings.
The software imports the existing DWG/DXF drawings
of the rooms and building parts to be installed. The
required consumers, such as lamps, sockets, roller
blinds etc., are placed into the 3D view on the PC, and
gesis ELECTRONIC components, gesis RAN distributor
units and gesis NRG at cables are wired with only
a few mouse-clicks. The recommended connector
encoding is automatically taken into account, and
the compliance with standards is checked. The
installation is also calculated regarding permitted
currents, voltage drops or selectivity. Possible
problems are immediately indicated by the software.
As a result, the planner receives an item list with
exactly calculated cable lengths and price details.
The gesis PLAN software serves as ef cient planning
aid for functional buildings with fl exible use of space
and facility management and its usage is not only
reasonable for new buildings. For building renovation
it supports the reliable preliminary planning through
exact calculations. Without expert knowledge the
user can start right away; software wizards guide
him accurately through the various screens.
The uniquely convenient solution does not
only take into account the electrotechnical
