Insulated tools from Bahco
Safety
GUARANTEE
Bahco tools all have a high level of technical performance. The materials used are of high quality and they have been carefully
chosen and tested in order to guarantee safety and durability. We are one of the few hand-tool manufacturers who make the
tools and the insulation in-house, both the PVC dipped insulated version (most of the tools) and the handle version (pliers,
screwdrivers).
Each tool is tested to 10000 V for a period of 10 seconds, thus guaranteeing safety during live work.
Penetration test
The insulating surface is pressed with a
special device. A voltage of 5000 V is then
applied to the tool for 3 minutes. The test is
considered successful.
Insulation adhesion test
The tools are conditioned at a temperature of
70° C for 168 h. A force of 50 N is applied in
the direction of the line dividing the insulating
material coating from the conductive part for
3 min. During this test the insulation material
must stay rmly attached to the basic tool.
Visual and dimensional
The tool (in particular the insulation) is visually
checked and should be free from external de-
fects. The marking should be perfectly legible
and the dimensions should be in accordance
with the standard.
Flame test
The test is considered as passed if the ame
height on the tool does not exceed 120 mm
and there is no leakage of insulated material
in fusion.
Permanent marking durability
The markings are rubbed for 15 s with a rag
soaked in water, and then for 15 s with a rag
soaked in isopropanol. After this process, the
marking should be legible.
Impact test
The tool is cooled at -25° C for two hours.
Afterwards, a special hammer applies force
on the insulating layer. The test is considered
successful if the insulating material shows no
breaks.
Dielectric test
The tools are immersed in water for 24 hours.
A voltage of 10kV is then continuously applied
for 3 mins. The test is considered successful
if no electrical puncture, spark over or asho-
ver occurs during the test period and if the li-
mits of leakage current are not exceeded.
Retaining force test
This test is applied only to tools which can
be assembled. The test consists of applying
a force of 50 N to try to separate both parts.
After a minute, both parts should stay assem-
bled.
Routine tests in accordance to IEC60900 specification

The variety between soft and piano depends on the tensile strength of the
wire which of course is related to the material properties (copper, brass,
iron, steel, etc). Then in each wire type we can nd a large variety of
thicknesses (diameters). More than the ones shown in this small chart.

The design of ergonomic tools wi-
thin Bahco is based on a scienti cally
recognised 11-point programme. This
programme covers facts and expe-
riences gathered from users, ergono-
mists, industrial designers, research
and development departments as well
as extensive testing and trials together
with end-users of our tools. This me-
thod is unique within the tool industry
and to ensure that you can always see
which tools have been developed ac-
cording to this programme, each one
is marked with the Ergo symbol.

Safety instructions for working with live system
Always transport your insulated tools carefully to avoid damage.
Examine each tool for damage before every use. If the insulation is
damaged, the tools should not be used.
Keep all tools in good condition with regular maintenance. The insu-
lated tools should be kept clean and dry.
Protective glasses should be worn when working with cutting
pliers or working overhead.
Safety requires that work space is kept clean, dry and tidy to pre-
vent accidents when working with live voltage.
Use the right tool correctly : Every tool was designed to do a
certain job. Always use it for its intended purpose and use the right
tool size.
Always wear the proper personal protective equipment requi-
red for the job. Protect your eyes, hands, ears and other body parts.
Make sure that loose and cut-off parts of cables do not fall
onto live components.
