Housing Assembly 1. Align key on one housing with keyway on other housing as shown in Figure 2. 2. Slide housing forward until special locking feature is engaged (an audible click). 3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 until desired multiple assembly is engaged. Stabilizing Ears Crimped Contact Figure 3 5. PANEL MOUNTING PROCEDURE To panel mount connector, proceed as follows: 1. Slide mounting adaptors onto appropriate housings until locking feature is engaged (an audible click). See Figure 4. Figure 2 4.2. Contact Installation 1. Orient crimped contact so that the stabilizing ears align with housing slots as shown in Figure 3. 2. Insert contact inte housing until it bottoms, an audible click is heard or felt. 3. Pull back lightly on wire to assure retention of crimped contact in housing. 4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 for multiple assembly. 4.3. Strain Relief When bending or forming wires, hold wires at least 6.35 mm [.250 in.] beyond rear cf connector before bending them in desired direction. Provide strain relief for wires approximately 25.4 mm [1 in.] from rear of housing if the installation is to be subjected to bending forces. Do not bend unsupporied wires. This may put Strain on the contacts inside the connectors. Mounting Adaptor Figure 4 2. Gut panel opening as required for single or multiple position connectors. See Figure 5. 3. Insert connector through panel cutout and secure connector with 8-32 screws and nuts or equivalent (customer supplied). 20f4 Rev B Form 404-33 1/98ANP AMPINNERGY Wire-to-Wire Connectors 408-3277 Mounting Hole Dia (Typ) X 4.19[.165] 7.47 [.294] le x Height | ot + | __ 4.19 [.165] t i ct | I Back Edge of Dia (Typ) | f Mounting Adaptor X = Multiples of 9.68 + 10.16 [.381 + .40 WIDTH = Multiples of 9.68 + 1.02 [.381 +04] 8-32 Screw HEIGHT = Multiples of 9.68 + 1.02 [.381 + .04] X = Multiples of 9.68 + 10.16 [.381 + .40] 8-32 Screw Alignment ee Slot Figure 5 Sc a s DN Alignment 6. SURFACE MOUNTING PROCEDURE Tab To surface mount connector, proceed as follows: 1. Slide mounting adaptors onto appropriate housings until locking feature is engaged (an audible click). See Figure 4. 2. Drill holes as indicated in Figure 6. 3. Secure connector with 8-32 screws and nuts or equivalent (customer supplied). 7. MATING CONNECTORS Orient housing alignment slot with housing alignment tab. Snap mating connectors together as shown in Figure 7. Figure 7 Rev B 30f4 Form 404-40 1/98AMPINNERGY Wire-to-Wire Connectors 408-3277 8. DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURES Contact 8.1. Contact Removal | DANGER | To avoid personal injury, disconnect the electrical supply prior to removing contacts. The contact is retained in the housing by the internal latch; thus, it is necessary to deflect the latch upwards fo remove the contact. 1. Align blade of AMP Extraction Tool 844751-2 with FRONT of connector. Insert blade between the contact and the internal latch. See Figure 8. 2. While pulling lightly on contact wire, lift up internal latch and pull contact from housing. 8.2. Separate Housings and Mounting Adaptors 1. Insert a flat tip screwdriver between two housings, or between a housing and a mounting adaptor as shown in Figure 8. 2. Twist screwdriver to pry apart components. 3. Follow these same procedures for multiple assemblies. 9.
